Carbon Neutral Company

In 2020, Childbase Partnership went carbon neutral by offsetting all 6500 tonnes of carbon it produced in 2018/19, as well as signing up to a pioneering program to reduce the biggest part of its carbon footprint: employee & parent travel. These actions sit as part of Childbase's programme for Net Zero by 2030: offsetting to achieve carbon neutrality in the short term, whilst committing to reduce all possible key emissions contributors over the remaining years until 2030.

Facilitated by Furthr, Childbase chose two UNFCC and Gold Standard-certified carbon prevention projects to offset its carbon footprint. 3500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent were offset by funding the distribution of solar water heaters across India, with the remaining 3000 tonnes offset on a wind farm in the northern state of Rajasthan. Both projects replace grid electricity that would have been generated by fossil fuels, whilst providing employment opportunities for local communities.

Understanding that it’s not enough to just offset emissions, Childbase signed up to an innovative carbon reduction plan to help reduce staff and parent's emissions from travel. This twelve-month plan involves accurate measurement of travel emissions, personalised education on greener commuting and a large-scale competition to encourage staff and parents to reduce their travel emissions.

Employee Trees

Childbase is also planting a tree for every current employee and each new starter joining the company. These trees are planted through our charity partner Eden Reforestation Projects in Madagascar, Mozambique and Kenya.

Eden Reforestation Projects reduces extreme poverty and restores healthy forests by employing local villagers to plant millions of trees every year. These trees we plant with Eden bring a wealth of natural benefits: restoring habitat for local wildlife, providing protection against flooding, decreasing desertification & drought to name a few.

Through supporting world-leading climate solutions

Reforesting Madagascar

More than 90% of Madagascar's original forest cover has been destroyed due to human activity, displacing entire animal species and significantly reducing water quality. Evopure are helping combat this by planting protected trees each day, and providing paid work for local communities in the process.

India Solar Water Heating

India is the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases worldwide after China & the Us, with coal still meeting a whopping 80% of the nation's energy demand. Evopure is tackling this issue at a household level, helping to provide homes & buildings across India with innovative solar cells to heat water directly from the sun.

Reforesting Mozambique

Mozambique loses over 1000 football fields' worth of forest every day, with 45% of the population living below the poverty line and relying on biodiversity for survival. Evopure are planting trees across 30+ Mozambique sites, whilst providing employment for communities local to the projects.

Wind Farm Rajasthan India

This wind farm is based in Jodhpur, in the Indian state of Rajasthan, has six 1.5 MW Wind Turbines. The electricity generated by the project is exported to the Indian electricity grid and displaces an equivalent amount of fossil-fueled electricity. From 2017 the project has created 28 employment opportunities and held 11 training events to upskill workers.

Reforesting Kenya

From the highlands to the coast, Kenya has an incredible diversity of forest types that have long-supported communities and wildlife. However, the management of its biodiversity has been unsustainable, with the nation having lost over half of its forests in recent decades. Evopure are planting trees each month across two distinct regions within Kenya: Afromontane species in the Great Rift Valley and mangrove forest species across North Kenyan Coast.
